OmniSync Retail · Feature
Scale labels that scan first time, every time.
Your deli, meat or produce scale prints a barcode with the item and its price or weight inside it. OmniSync Retail reads that barcode at the till, puts the right item on the receipt at the right price, and refuses a label that didn't scan cleanly.
What's in a scale label
Most label scales print a 13-digit barcode that starts with a 2. Here's one, using the standard layout:
- 21 tells the till this is a scale label, not a normal product barcode
- 01234 is the item's PLU, the short code you give it on the scale and in OmniSync Retail
- 00437 is the price, 4.37, or on some scales the weight in grams
- The last digit is a check digit. If it doesn't add up, the label was misread
The till finds item 1234, takes the price from the label, and adds the line. The cashier doesn't type anything.
Set up to match your scale
Scales don't all use the same layout, so you tell OmniSync Retail how yours prints. It's three settings, and the settings page shows a test label as you change them.
- Prefixes
Which starting digits mean "scale label". The default is 20 to 29, which covers most scales.
- PLU length
4, 5 or 6 digits for the item code. Five is the most common.
- Price or weight
Whether the number after the PLU is a price in cents or a weight in grams. If it's a weight, the till works out the price from the item's price per kilo.
Questions
What happens when a label is smudged?
If the check digit doesn't match, the till refuses the label and asks the cashier to scan again or type the PLU. It never guesses a price.
Do I need a particular scale?
No. Any label-printing scale that prints EAN-13 barcodes works, because the scale and the till never talk to each other. The label carries everything.
What about loose items without a label?
Weighed items can also be sold at the till by typing the weight, or with F3 to weigh. See everything the till does.
Which plan has it?
Scale labels come with Professional and above. See pricing.
